2018


To review:

In February I joined Usborne Books & More as a consultant. I honestly never thought direct sales was for me, but I have loved every minute of this adventure. I even promoted to Team Leader in August! I have doubled my kids' library, met tons of friends, grown out of my comfort zone in so many neat ways, and helped my family earn quite a bit of "extra cash" -- aka Mexico trip this spring break ;)



I read (and listened to) many books in 2018! I deleted all social media apps from my phone (except for Facebook) during Advent-- and I think I'll leave them off. Instead of aimlessly browsing Instagram, then Facebook, then Twitter, then Snapchat, and then starting over... I now pick up a book! Or play with my kids! Or do the chore I was procrastinating :)




In June, Scott and I traveled to St. Louis for a long-weekend trip to attend a wedding. We went kid-free and it was a glorious time exploring pizza places, City Museum, and Budweiser.

I continued Jazzercising (an average of 4.3x a week) for a total of 225 classes in 2018!


We took many trips to our neighborhood park!




I started my new job as a 7th & 8th grade Reading teacher! I forgot how time consuming planning new curriculum is... but the kids and staff are great!

In May, I finally graduated with my masters in Literacy from UNO-- only took 3.5 years ;) 



Luke turned 4! He is obsessed with Legos and superheroes.  


Norah turned 2. She loves donuts, unicorns, babies, and books!

Our home was in need of a major face lift this summer! We were so thankful to find a teacher at our church who does handy man stuff in the summer because he was AWESOME and affordable and truly such a blessing. He (and some high school boys!) replaced a bunch of rotten siding, added trim boards, brick molding on every window, painted the whole house, and did a bunch of little things for us like fixing some stuff around the fire place vent and filling cracks in the patio cement. It took him over 2 weeks! We also had 2 windows installed through Lowe's. (Not a great experience...) We LOVE what our home looks like now though. It feels so great to be DONE. Top: final product Bottom: old  See the rotten yuckiness? New siding, all prepped for paint (it was warped and rotten under that window...) In progress ...  Final product with new windows, paint, and new gray front door too.

My second three-day work week (in a row!) is coming to a close -- thanks to a snow day and a cold day. Weeks like this are nice, but also .. harder somehow. 1. So far this year I have read: Something Other Than God  by Jennifer Fulwiler = Non-fiction about how she found faith and eventually joined the Catholic Church. I read this really quickly, was intrigued with her story, but felt more explanation was needed at times-- like she mentioned having a hang up on birth control but then one event changed her mind completely, which felt a bit inauthentic to me but may have really been the case! God works is mysterious ways. (B+) Dear Martin by Nic Stone = YA novel about an African-American boy who is navigating the world while encountering racism (B-) The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord = YA novel about a girl who experiences a crisis of faith when her mom is diagnosed with cancer for the second time; I think faith is often missing from YA novels, so it was refreshing to read ...

Oh, just a little update!

Little miss Norah is already 3 months (and some change) old. She's almost growing out of her 6 mo clothes and is on the fast track to size 3 diapers. Luckily for me, she's recently began getting up only ONCE per night.. anytime between 2:30-5. I haven't quite figured out what helps her sleep until 5, but I can totally handle a once per night feeding! But... I'm back to work as of last week which means: pumping. GROSS. I hate pumping. Mainly because 1) I miss out on any socialization time with my co-workers since I can't eat lunch with them and I lose my plan times to pumping too (which means it's harder to get stuff done!) 2) Seriously less clothing options 3) So much stuff to transport and clean. BUT. On the positive side: 1) I figured out how to pump while driving on my morning commute = time saver! 2) I'm currently making just enough so I haven't had to supplement yet.... we'll see how long that can last.
